Nokia announced 6800 in Nov 2002. The
foldable full keyboard means that the phone is
focusing mobile messaging service. In China market, keyboard is not good for
inputting Chinese characters. Thus, the Nokia's product creation centre in
Beijing China creates Nokia 6108, the first Nokia phone with pen-based touch
pad input, designed for Chinese messaging. As usual, we prepare over
50 pictures for you to know more about the another Nokia "first" phone -
6108.

Asians or Chinese users like small phones. The size of
European style 6800 is not acceptable by them. Focusing on Chinese users,
the size of 6108 is similar of those Series 40 colours display handsets. 6108
is a bar phone with a flip. In the normal use, the flip includes normal
number pad. It averts the strange looking from other peoples. It is very
important for Chinese.
Unlike English characters typing, using T9 Chinese input is not convenient
enough. Most Chinese users refuse to use SMS or mobile email services. So,
Nokia designed a touch pad for hand recognition so that users can feel
easily to input Chinese word. All you should to is unclosing the flip. The
built-in touch pad appears. By using the stylus, you can use your own
handwriting to input Chinese and English characters. There are two short
keys in the touch pad to go strange to SMS composer or calendar. This design
encourage users to usse more text based mobile services. If you feel
comfortable to T9 English or stroke Chinese input, you can use back keymat
input method.
There is another story for the stylus. It is made of plastic, thicker than
the one for Sony Ericsson P800. Most stylus for PDA will store in the two
side of the device. But the stylus for 6108 is located at the back of the
handset. This design is inspired by historic Terracotta warriors. In
Mainland China, they even use sword as product image. This design is good to
make the handset thinner but otherwise thicker than Nokia 6100.
