Handset Outlook and Features
Comparing the size with Nokia
3650, it has similar height. The right hand side includes an
IrDA port and MMC slots. The left hand side includes 3 bottoms,
one buttons for activating the camera to snap photos. Like a
portable MP3 player, T919 equips a USB port for data transfer.
Looking at bottom, we can see stylus, battery charging port, and
a 2.5mm stereo headset port. Tel.me T919 uses separate battery
to operate. Users need to remove the battery before adding a SIM
card. The camera locates the back of the handset. The original
package includes a travel charger, 3 styluses, a screen cleaner,
software CDROM and a USB cable.
Tel.me describes T919 as a Multi Media Phone. It fulfills the
requirement if we just look at the feature lists. The screen can
produce 320000 colours, better than 4096 colours of Sony
Ericsson P800 and Nokia 3650. It has a built in camera, supports
EMS, and email features (POP3 and SMTP). It is a GPRS class 10
phone, having around 50kbps download speed in a good network
situation. Also, with the proper software, users can sync the
address book with MS Outlook. The users can add an image into a
phone book memory. When a call comes, the assigned image and
caller ID will come out It supports to view MS Word attachment.
Also, it has a MP3 player and a graphical notepad. However,
unlike SE P800 and Nokia 3650 and SE P800, T919 uses
properatries operationg system, users cannot install other
programmes.
On Test: Interface,
display and control
When I held T919 in hand, it could
not give me a good impression. Firstly, there is no protective
material for USB port and MMC slot. The dust can easily go in.
Also, the handset is made of poor plastic making T919 like a
child toy.
I find the second drawback of T919 when I try to turn on the
phone. I cannot find the proper instruction. Finally I find the
bottom for power up the phone from the left handset side. The
design of the graphic interface is not good enough . The icon
cannot give you hint on what feature it represents. I need to
try many times to find a proper icon for each feature. Luckily,
the menu logic is clear. Users can move and back the menu very
easily.
Users can use touch screen to operate the Tel.me T919. The
response is fast, comparable to Motorola A388, and other PDA
phone. Sony Ericsson P800 equips a Jog Dial. Users can use it to
operate some features by one hand. T919 does not have similar
design. Almost all features should be activated by the touch
screen. The three left keys, the middle one is the short key for
Profiles (ring tones volume, vibration etc), landscape or
display. Tel.me T919 supports hand writing recognition. However,
it can only be operated in the portrait mode
T919 uses CSTN 32k colours display. Users can change the
wallpapers, and the background colours. When users click into
the menu, the wallpapers will have fade out effect. T919 does
not include any pre-set pictures, users have to download some
via WAP or make it own by the embedded digital camera.
ThreeGMobile has tried to compare the quality of a picture on
Nokia 3650 (4096 colours display) and T919. T919 has a brighter
display with richer colours than Nokia ones. It shows that 32k
colours display is better than 4k ones.
