Nokia 6600 is the third Symbian Nokia Series 60 smartphone. It brings us the new Symbian 7.0s new operating system which improves the symbian phone in some ways. What's the most exciting improvement should be the first Nokia 65k TFT colour screen. It makes the 6600 a real multimedia mobile device.

Professional look??
Nokia positions 6600 as a professional phone so we cannot find any xpress-on cover for this. Instead, three deep colours are prepared. The white and gray are for all markets while the gold colour is only for Chinese market only. Does Nokia 6600 look like a phone for professional? Personally I think not. The round shape creates a interesting image. However, Nokia still uses their effort to reduce the size. You can read our photos report in the following page. The 6600 is shorter than the big 3650. Surely it is easier to carry.

New Symbian OS
Nokia 6600 comes with a new Symbian 7.0s operating system. It is not a revolutionary upgrade. The control feeling is the same as the previous Series 60 handsets. However, it is still easy to recognize the differences. The menu icons are different. Also, no more pure white background is found on the screen because a new theme feature is provided. After activating the theme, the text and background colours will be changed. You can choose your favorite pictures to create the right atmosphere (example is provided in the photo gallery.) According to the Nokia staff, the new OS groups all multimedia files in to one folder "Gallery", you can manage them in a easy way.

More Improvment
Nokia 6600 is still a multimedia phone like the previous brothers 7650 and 3650. It comes again with a VGA camera, capable to take up to 640 x 480 still pictures or 176x144 video clips with sound in 10 - 15 seconds (limited to 100kb). 2x digital zoom is featured both on the still picture or video capturing mode. Nokia staff said the new lens is made by two layer to reduce the noise of the pictures. However, we compare the photos by Nokia 3650 and Nokia 6600, we cannot find the significant difference. Nokia 6600 comes with a very bright TFT 65k colour display. If you just look at the pictures or video by the camera, you cannot find the benefit. Nokia staff prepared a high-resolution video demo clips (around 200kbps. 1MB / 1 minute) edited by other DV software. You can see the very clear and bright image on the screen. Nokia 6600 supports real media and 3GPP video format. In Hong Kong, a free video image tool is provided to the first 1000 Chinese version users to change the DV format video to 3GPP mode. Nokia 6600 becomes a DV phone in this sense. Thanks to the support of MMC card, all images and video can store on it. Nokia staff said 6600 supported up to 128MB format. Nokia 6600 also gets some significant improvements. Here is the detailed list.
