Comments after trial
ThreeGMobile focused on Xelibri 1, and did tests on Xelibri 2 and 3 on
specific features. Here is the some comments:
Voice Related Features
Of 4 models, ThreeGMobile feels that using Xelibri 1 has same experience
will normal phone. Although the keypad is made of soft plastic material, we
can feel comfortable when pressing the number keys. The "X" style menu keys
are easy to operate too. However, it is not case when using model number 2.
The side keypad is too small to press. Users need to use two hands to dail a
number. The worst still is the menu key. It is all in one four dimensional
design but the size is too small so that users easily choose the wrong
features. Xelibri 3 does not have number keys but users can still input the
phone book memory by specially design input method (shown on the picture).
The inconvenience is expected. We also found a interesting point that when
you finish to press the telephone numbers, you need to press twice the key
to make a call, while normal phone requires one press. We don't know the
logic of the designers.
We have also tried to use the voice dialing. The result is acceptable.
However, we wonder how many users will use the voice-dialing feature. The
reception and voice quality of Xelibri 1 are acceptable. The volume of
earpiece is not so loud when using it the noisy bus, but we can still listen
clear from the other side. Xelibri 1 has the hands free speakerphone
feature, but the result is not good. The speaker cannot produce loud voice,
and the other side complaint the low sound.

Menu
The menu of Xelibri phones is edited from the black-and-white display
Siemens phones. Each page can show you one type of features with a small
icon. The navigation process is logical. Users will not get lost from the
menu.
Phone book
ThreeGMobile forgot to count how many internal memories for phone
book, but we can sure that the phones have phone book memories, around 80 -
100. Each item can store 1 name with 1 telephone number. Users can assign a
individual ring tone for each contact.

Messaging Services
Xelibri series support long SMS , SMS chat room and EMS. Like the latest
Siemens models, the EMS is enhanced one, users can receive icons, animation
and sound from other handset, not restricted to the handset pre-set
animation or sounds. ThreeGMobile has tried the EMS features by using number
1 and number 2 models, finding that the handset can receive EMS icons made
by other handsets brand properly. However, the test models cannot receive
Siemens' s preparatory ring tones, screen logos and screen saver format.
Xelibri series phones include many interesting icons and animations. Some of
them are the components of EMS message. Together with some big animated
pictures, users can choose them as screen savers. 4 Xelibri models also
introduce a "Card" feature. The concept is similar with Nokia's picture
messaging. There are several pictures with some texts for users to choose,
like a cake with "happy birthday". Users can send the pictures and texts
acting as an e-card. ThreeGMobile tried to send to Nokia phones and Xelibri
phones. Nokia phones can only receive the texts while Xelibri phones can
receive both texts and pictures.

Ring tones and Vibration
Xelibri 1, 2, and 4 support polyphonic sounds. The handset manufacturer does
not disclose how many chords of sounds, but the implementation is similar
with Siemens CL 50 / 8008, we think it should be 4-chords. The choices of
ring tones are like the Siemens phones, but still comfortable and well
turned. Comparing the volume of ring tones with other handsets with
polyphonic ring tones, both Xelibri phones are very low. Users cannot listen
the sound clearly in normal outdoor situation. If you are in public
transport, you even cannot hear the sound. The vibration is not strong
enough. We are wondering the users will miss call or not.

To sum up:
Good Things:
1) Special looking, good for show-off
2) Good SMS and EMS support
3) Voice quality is good
4) Logical menu design
Bad Things
1) not easy to dial a call
2) low volume polyphonic sound
3) Xelibri 2, 3, and 4 are hard to operate
First Impression: For showing off
If 5 stars represents the highest scores for the mobile phones. ThreeGMobile
gives Xelibri Spring / Summer series 2003 2.5 stars. The phones mainly focus
on the outlook. Beside model number 1, other models are quite hard to
operator and even to dial a call. Xelibri series are fashion rather than
phones. Sometimes good fashion can be so attractive while not so useful.
That is true for Xelibri Series : elegant enough but not good phones
Attention: this is a trial report, meaning that the testers only use
the phone in a short time. The report is not a comprehensive users report,
while it is still useful for users to choose a better device. Any comment
about that phone? Want to say your user experiences on any device? Why not
tell us?
