Nokia Digital Pen SU-1B : Draw and Send
Updated:  25 Feb  2004  (Page 1 )

Bluetooth pen drawing is not a new concept. The Sweden Anoto company technology can be traced back to many year with the co-operation with Ericsson. However, the final commercialized product becomes wthe Nokia Digital Pen SU-1B. With this digital pen, users can enjoy "what you write is what you send." Beautiful handwriting and painting can be sent via bluetooth and MMS now.

The components of Nokia Digital Pen are quite complicated. The digital recognition process cannot be be done in normal paper. Two sets of special notepad are bundled in the package. Some unique codes are printed on that paper.  After using all the papers, users can print the code on other papers by using the software in the companion CDROM or buy another new notepad. The pen itself includes a very small digital camera to record the writing and drawing. The signals would be sent via the bluetooth to the Nokia bluetooth compatible handsets like 3650, 6600 and 6820.
The actual uses of Nokia Digital Pen is very fantastic. All the processes can be done by point and click. Vibration alter will confirm you the action.  In the dedicated notepad, visualized command codes are printed on the paper. Before you write anything, you need to click the "square box" to activate the paring with the bluetooth handset. The pen is a real ball pen. You can write anything on the paper. If you want to change the text or drawing color, turn the color pattern pages, click the color "square box" to choose. The final version will include the color but you cannot view it on the paper. All the paper can be reuse although the papers are used. Remember to click the "send box" if you want to send the masterpiece to the bluetooth handset. There are two sizes of the drawing messaging. 300 x 240 and 100 x 80 pixels, depending the purpose you use. The graphic format is GIF. We prepared some sample drawing, you can view them in the following pages.
