I remembered the date of GSL Xplore Series Palm Smartphone launched last year. Many of my friends who never thought of using smartphone got ones. They told me main reason, besides the in-built camera, and the 262k color display, is the extreme small size. The Xplore series phone is in fact smaller than most smartphones, like Orange SPV E200, Sony Ericsson P900, and Nokia 6600. This point is the typical success key in the Asia phones market. The new version of Xplore G88 has recently launched in Hong Kong. The small size is kept and slider style keypad is the new icon for that phone. ThreeGMobile.net got a real retail sample of review. We prepared a mega-picture review first, and in-depth trial report will be brought to you all in the coming weeks.

Slide Up Style
The previous GSL Xplore G18 only supports touch screen operation. GSL improved the design by introduction of the keypad slider. Users can use the touch screen for normal Palm OS operation. When you want to dial a call, simply slide down the keypad and the dial interface will be prompted out. The blue backlight enables you to dial a call easily in the dark area. Users can back choose the on-screen numeric keys.

GSL Xplore G88 can be said as between old and new technology. It comes with a TFT 262k color display with 160 x 240 pixels resolution; a built-in 10,000 pixels camera. At the same time, G88 uses back Palm OS 4.1 without expansion memory slot. The CPU is only Motorola DragonBallz 33 MHz type. Actually, all of them are appeared in the old G18 model. GSL also added 24MB more flash memory ,totally 32MB , giving more space for users to store photos , ring tones and other Palm OS application

In terms of smartphone, GSL tried its best to provide the necessary PIM and multi media features. G88 includes all Palm OS PIM, like contact list, memo pad. Users can synchronize the data with traditional Palm Desktop or Intellisync Lite to connect to MS Outlook. GSL also provided wireless application like email client, WAP client and MMS client. Users need not install other applications to handle all that.

A in-built Chinese plug-in is also include for the users in Hong Kong. Like other plug-in language pack, users can choose between the menu languages. The camera is only 10,000 pixels type, giving up to 240 x 320 pixels pictures. Users can choose different sizes of pictures while no video recording is supported. Users can use the photo editor to create fun pictures. Next page is the official press release provided by GSL.
